Vanessa Gonçalves: from clinical discipline to Miami’s wellness ecosystem

After leaving a stable career in dentistry, a personal calling has grown into a multifaceted wellness practice spanning private coaching, ZenBreak, publishing, and digital platforms across Miami and beyond.

Six years ago, Vanessa Gonçalves was a practicing dentist in Miami. Today she is one of the city’s most sought-after yoga teachers and the architect of a wellness brand that spans private coaching, corporate programs, publishing, and media—a path that makes her one of the few teachers in Miami’s crowded studio scene building something closer to an enterprise than a class schedule.

Vanessa’s shift away from dentistry did not come from burnout alone, but from one of the hardest periods of her life. “I was in a very depressed moment in my life. I was unable to do anything. Actually, I spent almost every day in bed,” she recalls. Therapy helped, but it was a doctor’s suggestion to try meditation that changed the trajectory. Her first sessions were difficult—“a never-ending loss of time,” she says—yet she kept showing up. Meditation eventually led to yoga, and yoga, she reflects, “saved my life.”

That profound transition became the very foundation of her approach to teaching and movement. “Being a dentist shaped me profoundly and was a huge part of my transition into teaching—the discipline, the understanding of the body, the moment I decided to leave a stable career to follow something that felt more aligned with who I am,” she explains. Where most instructors arrive at yoga purely through fitness, Vanessa brings a clinical, anatomical understanding of the body developed during her years in dentistry. That background quietly sets her apart in a city full of instructors with traditional fitness résumés, creating a functional approach that resonates deeply with the professional athletes and high-performance private clients who make up much of her roster today.

Building a brand, not just a class

Leaving the certainty of a clinical career to build a brand from scratch brought its own learning curve. “Being an entrepreneur is like a roller coaster. It’s a lot of ups and downs,” she says of navigating that shift. Today, her business operates on multiple tracks at once. Alongside her private practice, which focuses on mobility, strength, and alignment, she leads ZenBreak, a corporate wellness program that delivers yoga and mindfulness directly into companies and hospitality spaces across Miami through tailored partnerships and hotel contracts.

Her voice has also expanded across publishing and digital platforms. She is the author of *Soy suficiente, soy vulnerable* (“I’m Enough, I’m Vulnerable”), a book rooted in her own journey of recovery and growth, and she teaches a specialized yoga course for creative minds on Domestika. Through her podcast and YouTube channel, she continues these conversations on mobility, mindset, and reinvention, connecting with an international community of roughly 233,000 followers in English, Spanish, and Portuguese across the United States, Latin America, and Europe.

Grounded routines and what lies ahead

To sustain such a demanding multi-track schedule, Vanessa keeps her personal routine disciplined before the workday begins. Her mornings start with an early walk on the beach, coffee, and twenty minutes of silent meditation. “My mornings are sacred,” she says. Of everything the work involves, watching a student’s slow, steady transformation over time remains what she loves most, while navigating corporate contracts is what she enjoys least—though it is precisely the muscle she continues to build as ZenBreak scales.

Her work also extends beyond Miami through international retreats for practitioners looking for something deeper than a standard studio session. After leading an immersive gathering on the coast of Negril, Jamaica, her next retreat is set for late November in Madeira, Portugal—an island with which she shares a deep personal connection. Across every project and format, Vanessa’s story reflects the strength of intentional reinvention, turning clinical discipline and personal alignment into a thriving, purpose-driven brand.
