The experience at Arco Forte begins before anyone steps onto a mat. A neutral palette, carefully chosen lighting, music and scent set a calm tone at arrival. Inside the infrared-heated room, that calm gives way to energy. The contrast is deliberate: an intimate studio designed to feel elevated without keeping people at a distance.
“Luxury to me isn’t about being intimidating”, explains founder Laura Cabrera. “It’s about the details, the experience, and how a space makes you feel”. Her signature offering is infrared-heated mat Pilates, with classes that challenge members while encouraging intentional movement. But the setting matters just as much. “You’re not walking into a huge fitness facility where you can disappear into the crowd”.
From education to the mat
Laura’s route into studio ownership began outside the fitness industry. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst, she worked with children with special needs, supported families, held leadership roles in education and eventually built her own applied behavior analysis practice.

“That work taught me so much about people”, she reflects, pointing to environment, connection, consistency and motivation as essential conditions for meaningful change. “Interestingly, those lessons have carried into Arco Forte more than I ever anticipated”.
Movement had long been part of her life, and she became certified in mat Pilates. The business idea, however, came from a local need she understood firsthand. “I live and work in this area. I understood the women here because I was one of them”, she recalls. “I wanted an elevated Pilates experience in Kendall that didn’t require driving across Miami to find it”.
Entering a new industry was intimidating, but it also gave her room to approach the project differently. “I didn’t want to simply open another Pilates studio. I wanted to build a brand, an experience, and ultimately a community”.
Connection in the small moments
At Arco Forte, community is less a positioning statement than a daily practice. Staff learn members’ names. Class milestones are celebrated. Women who arrived alone develop friendships, then bring sisters, daughters, mothers or friends into the room.
“For me, community is something you have to actually create”, Laura emphasizes. “You can’t just put the word on a wall or use it in your marketing”.
Member experiences, wellness events and collaborations with local businesses create opportunities to connect beyond the class schedule. Inside the room, instructors are expected to consider the whole experience, from sequencing and cueing to music, heat and interaction. “We want you to feel challenged, but we also want you to feel seen”.
For Laura, the clearest evidence often comes after the workout. “Some of my favorite moments are when I’m at the studio and hear members talking at the front desk long after class has ended”, she shares. “To me, that’s when you know you’ve created something beyond fitness”.
A clear point of view
Building in Miami means operating among countless fitness and wellness options. Laura knew that a beautiful room alone would not establish a distinct identity. Branding, instructors, programming, partnerships, policies and member communication all had to express the same point of view.
Behind that consistency sits work members rarely see: staffing, instructor development, maintenance, marketing and operations. Learning those demands while building the business has been one of her biggest challenges. Another has been resisting the pressure to follow every trend.
“I’ve had to learn to trust the vision I had for Arco Forte and stay focused on what feels authentic to our brand and our community”, she explains.
The growing pains are personal, but so are the rewards: full classes, new friendships and people choosing to return. The studio’s name captures what she hoped to create, and what the process has asked of her. “The name Arco Forte reflects so much of what I wanted the brand to represent, strength, structure, and resilience”, Laura concludes. “And I think in many ways, building the studio has required all three”.
